First the rats started feasting on the rubbish piled high on Birmingham’s streets. Now, the rodents are threatening to cut off residents’ escape routes by gnawing through their cars.

Binmen in the city have been on strike for three weeks, leaving bin bags obstructing pavements like an assault course.
