German disaster as floods kill 81, with hundreds missing

Berlin | Germany is facing its worst natural disaster in decades after raging floodwaters swept away entire villages across a swath of western Europe, cutting power and mobile phone services and killing scores of people.

German broadcaster ARD reported on Friday morning that the death toll had reached 81 in the country, which was hardest-hit by floods caused by a historic deluge of rain.
