Far-right firebrand poised to be Italy’s new PM

Rome | Italian voters are expected to propel Giorgia Meloni towards the premiership on Sunday as polls opened in the general election, making her the country’s first female and first far-right prime minister since it became a republic.
Ms Meloni, leader of the Brothers of Italy party, is favourite to win the election at the head of a right-wing coalition, according to opinion polls published before a blackout period.
