There was ill-feeling aplenty at Lord’s, of all places, but Pat Cummins is emerging from it all as a fine Australian captain against England’s formidable Ben Stokes.
It was “the best of times, it was the worst of times”, as Charles Dickens once wrote.
The famed English novelist was referring to the French Revolution 234 years ago, but his words rang true on Sunday after just about unimaginable scenes of physical and verbal abuse of the Australian cricket team in the hallowed Long Room at Lord’s, the home of cricket.
