He's facing 12 years in prison and fines of more than $65 million after being found guilty in a 1MDB corruption trial but his old party is still scheming its way back to power.
In a Kuala Lumpur court room on Tuesday prosecutor Datuk V Sithambaram was pleading for a tough sentence. The presiding judge had found former prime minister Najib Razak guilty on criminal charges related to the multibillion-dollar 1MDB scandal.
"This case has tarnished the country as a kleptocracy, and the people of Malaysia don't deserve that," Sithambaram argued.
