Singapore/Jakarta | The Association of South East Asian Nations has provided Myanmar’s military with false international legitimacy by working with junta officials directly responsible for civilian deaths, a United Nation official said on Wednesday.
Tom Andrews, the UN’s special rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar, launched a blistering attack on ASEAN, accusing the regional bloc of not only failing to advance efforts to curb the junta’s violence, but sending “them backwards”.
