Typhoon halts factories, trains in Japan
Tokyo | Toyota Motor Corp and Canon Inc were among companies planning to close factories on Kyushu island on Monday to assess the impact of a typhoon bearing down on southern Japan.
Authorities urged more than 100,000 households in the southern prefectures of Okinawa, Kagoshima, Kumamoto and Nagasaki to evacuate, and warned of potentially record rainfall, powerful winds, high tides and large ocean swells as Typhoon Haishen loomed off the coast on Sunday afternoon.
