Little progress in US-Japan trade talks despite Trump’s claims

Tokyo | The US and Japan kicked off tariff negotiations with the aim of reaching a deal as soon as possible, but did not discuss currency issues, Japan’s top negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, said.

Akazawa met with US President Donald Trump in Washington before holding trade talks with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to seek a reprieve from the administration’s tariffs.
