Solomons PM slams AUKUS as China calls military base ‘fake news’

Tokyo | China has called suggestions it will build a military base on the Solomon Islands “fake news” and says Scott Morrison has no grounds to declare a “red line” on a security deal signed between two sovereign countries.

Beijing’s comments came as Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare slammed the Australian government for failing to consult the Pacific nation ahead of joining the AUKUS alliance.
