On Wednesday at midday local time Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim shocked the nation, announcing he had enough support to topple the government sworn in just six months ago.

Even by the of standards of Malaysian politics, the announcement was a bombshell that could trigger a change in government, a snap election or just more uncertainty about who's pulling the strings as the country struggles with a pandemic-triggered economic slump.
