Najib Razak walked out of the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Tuesday night, but the reasoning that led to a guilty verdict will cast a long shadow over other trials and investigations related to the multi-billion dollar 1MDB scandal.

Judge Mohd Nazlan Ghazali found Najib guilty on all seven charges, which cover abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money-laundering related to the receipt of 42 million ringgit ($13.8 million) from 1MDB subsidiary SRC International.
