China refuses to call Russia’s move on Ukraine an invasion

Tokyo | China has given its nuanced support for Russia’s “legitimate security concerns” in Europe as it refused to call Vladimir Putin’s offensive an invasion and eased restrictions on Russian wheat imports at a time when other countries are hitting Moscow with sanctions.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and US President Joe Biden on Friday condemned China’s opposition to Western sanctions and criticised an announcement by China’s customs agency this week approving the imports of wheat from all regions of Russia.
