Two Canadian citizens detained in China more than two years ago will go on trial for espionage early next week with the politically-charged case set to add an extra edge to a looming high-level meeting between the United States and China.
The Canadian government confirmed court hearings would be held Monday for former diplomat Michael Kovrig on Friday and for businessman Michael Spavor on Monday. Face-to-face talks between top US and Chinese officials start Thursday in Anchorage, Alaksa.
