China signals it is open to trade talks with US

Tokyo | China says it is considering trade talks with the Trump administration, indicating a softening of its hardline position as both sides look for a way out of their tariff war that has roiled global markets and raised fears of lower economic growth.

The commerce ministry said on Friday it noted senior US officials were repeatedly expressing a willingness to talk to Beijing about lowering tariffs. It urged officials in Washington to show “sincerity” towards China, while signalling that Beijing may be open to talks.
