Biden’s North Korea problem

If the Biden administration is to make any progress on the denuclearisation of North Korea, it will need to seek better co-ordination not just with allies South Korea and Japan, but also China.

For a week starting on January 5, North Korea held its 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, the second time such a meeting has been held under Kim Jong-un’s leadership and only the third time since 1980.

As the highest ruling organ of the Workers’ Party, the Congress provides a window into the thinking of the North Korean elite about the future policy direction of this isolated country.
