Myanmar on edge as thousands protest coup
Tens of thousands of people marched for a second day in Myanmar’s biggest city on Sunday, and thousands more assembled across the country to protest against the military junta’s coup and detention of elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi last week.
Australian academic Sean Turnell, an economic adviser to Ms Suu Kyi, was among an unknown number of people detained in the crackdown. Foreign Minister Marise Payne said she was deeply concerned by Professor Turnell’s treatment and hauled Myanmar’s ambassador in for talks.
