There aren't many start-ups that can afford to knock back $1 million in funding, but the founders of medical information service CareMonkey feel confident they have done the right thing.

CareMonkey won the Slush 2015 international pitching competition in Finland last November, winning a prize valued at $1 million – but the money was configured as an investment, rather than a gift.
