Tech’s golden couple shows the business world how to win with grace
Australia’s fast-growing tech start-up scene has had a bumper year, with big money acquisitions and enormous funding rounds flying around at unprecedented levels. But despite the fanfare around the country’s growing herd of unicorns, Canva’s Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht have cemented their position as the defining founders of their era.
The market audibly gasped in April when a $US71 million ($100 million) funding round saw the company valued at an eye-watering $20 billion, but staggeringly it was back with news of a further $US200 million raising in September that saw its valuation soar to $55 billion.
