Disney chief goes retro for AFL finals to reel in streaming rivals

Disney’s Australian boss Kylie Watson-Wheeler is bringing her AFL obsession into her day job as the US giant takes on the dominant players in the local streaming wars.

The Walt Disney Company’s managing director in Australia and New Zealand, Kylie Watson-Wheeler, will use the AFL finals to launch a retro advertising campaign to seek to reel in Netflix and Amazon Prime as the dominant players in the local streaming wars.

It is perhaps no surprise that Watson-Wheeler is turning to Aussie Rules to help lure viewers, given the role it plays in the hearts of Australian sports fans and her own connection to the game.
