A $1.2 billion wage subsidy program to boost the uptake of apprenticeships has met its target of 100,000 starters less than five months after it was launched.
Now employer and education groups are calling for an extension of the program, saying it put a floor under the apprenticeship and training system that probably would have collapsed without it.
