Report’s push for free skills training would ‘distort market’

The Victorian government has been told it should extend free TAFE education, including free training in basic skills for anyone who wants it, despite the Productivity Commission last month warning that free courses were distorting demand and hurting private providers.

The Independent Tertiary Education Council of Australia, which represents 83 per cent of skills training in Victoria, said free courses distort demand. Ryan Stuart
