One in every 50 students who sat for the NSW Higher Education Certificate last year applied for a single course – bachelor of medicine at the University of NSW – as their first preference, but only one in eight of them will be admitted.

Medicine is such a popular choice with NSW school-leavers that four of the top 10 most sought-after courses were a medical degree.
