Three Australian universities suffered declines in their international rankings due to pandemic-induced border closures, but five local institutions remain in the world’s top 50.

Australian National University was again named Australia’s best university in the 2023 QS World University Ranking, coming in at 30, three positions down on last year. Melbourne University, however, closed the gap, rising four places to 33.
