Senate will inquire into adequacy of oil and gas taxes

Independent South Australian senator Rex Patrick has accused oil and gas companies of paying little or no tax and short-changing Australians as he launched a Senate inquiry into their tax treatment.

Mr Patrick, of the Centre Alliance, said Australian Taxation Office data "provides clear indications" that the right amount of tax from oil and gas giants hasn't flowed into the Treasury.
