Unis need ‘systemic overhaul’ to deal with AI use

As many as 60 per cent of university students have used generative artificial intelligence to produce academic work, forcing universities to adapt and respond to make sure students are actually learning, experts say.
The surging popularity of generative AI since the launch of ChatGPT now requires “a significant, systemic overhaul of assessment practices” in universities, says University of Queensland education professor Jason Lodge.
