Facebook lifts number of users who had data improperly shared to 87 million

The Australian Information and Privacy Commission has launched a formal investigation into the data of more than 311,000 Australians' Facebook profiles being improperly shared with research firm Cambridge Analytica.

Acting Australian Information Commissioner and acting Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk announced the investigation after Facebook admitted Australians may have been impacted as part of 87 million profiles that were harvested without permission.
