Schools and business embrace AI, but do we know what they’re doing?

AI seemingly lets students and workers do new and exciting things more efficiently but, without care, we risk sacrificing genuine knowledge for short-term gains.

The peak body representing public high school principals has urged the government not to ban the use of artificial intelligence in schools, saying the technology’s inevitably rising role in society makes it necessary for schools to adapt and integrate generative AI technologies to prepare children for the future workforce.

They are right, of course. Schools shouldn’t exist within a societal vacuum, but nobody seems very sure just what they are letting themselves in for.
