Only the brave will consider listing
It will take much sturdier local and global sharemarkets to get retail investors interested in initial public offerings, judging by the response to offers this year.
A stronger sharemarket is not encouraging initial public offerings. More floats have been withdrawn, recent listings have sunk below their issue price and some significant IPOs have been deferred.
Remarkably, only four of 30 floats this calendar year are trading above their issue price. The average share price loss (against the issue price) is 16 per cent, Weekend Financial Review analysis shows.
