Labor digs in after Trump makes big tech tariff threat

The Australian government said its consultation with tech giants over payments to media companies for using their content will continue, despite US President Donald Trump threatening big new tariffs on any country that hits them with new taxes or regulations.

Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino is responsible for implementing the government’s plan to force big platforms like Meta and Google to strike commercial deals to pay local publishers to use their content, known as the News Media Bargaining Code.
