Big names back VC fund targeting early stage funding gap

A wide variety of backers, including iiNet founder Michael Malone, AirTree Ventures co-founder Daniel Petre and former NBA star Matthew Dellavedova, have put money into the first formal fund of early stage start-up investment firm Jelix Ventures, as it aims to fill a gap in the local funding scene.

Jelix is run by former investment banker Andrea Gardiner and her husband Ian Gardiner, who is also co-founder of start-up investment and networking group Innovation Bay. It invested $11 million in 26 start-ups through a syndicate approach before closing the new $15 million fund last week.
