US President Joe Biden has taken the extraordinary step of issuing an executive order to govern the development of artificial intelligence, in what he claims is the most significant action globally on the topic.
The order catalogues areas where we all have reason to fear the possibility of AI wreaking havoc. It puts the force of US government buying power alongside moralistic pleas to try to cajole commercial operators into doing the right thing.
