British giant Frasers to go big on Accent, roll out Sports Direct

Accent Group, the ASX-listed retailer behind the Hype DC and Platypus shoe chains, is poised to sign a deal with London-listed Frasers Group that would see the latter’s shareholding increase to 19.99 per cent and the two companies sign a joint venture to roll out stores across the country.

Frasers acquired a 14.65 per cent stake in Accent from billionaire retailer Brett Blundy in August. At the time, Frasers’ chief executive Michael Murray said the stake would enable it to grow its presence in a key market as it sought to become a leading global sports retailer.
