Judging by the Twittersphere’s acclamation (a dubious litmus test, admittedly), the star of Insiders this week was Canberra press gallery veteran Samantha Maiden, who was appointed political editor of news.com.au in March.

Maiden made a very good point on Sunday that there are reasonable parallels in the allegations of staff bullying by acting Immigration Minister Alan Tudge and former Labor backbencher Emma Husar. “And yet we’re treating them completely differently and the same media outlets and in some cases the same journalists that enthusiastically and relentlessly pursued Emma Husar as a story… are now saying that Alan Tudge is not a story. Well, that strikes me as a bit unusual.”
