Rio Tinto board squibs Juukan Gorge accountability
Joe AstonColumnistOn Monday morning, AMP Limited chairman David Murray and non-executive director John Fraser resigned while executive Boe Pahari was demoted from AMP Capital’s top job after shareholders demanded accountability over the handling of a sexual harassment case at the financial services group.
Shareholders have also demanded “true accountability” from Rio Tinto, which on May 24 destroyed the Juukan Gorge caves – demonstrably occupied by Aboriginal people 46,000 years ago – over the protests of their traditional owners.
