Qantas Chairman’s Lounge holdout needed ACCC workaround

Star competition lawyer Liza Carver hasn’t flown with the plebs for over a decade. Working for the ACCC didn’t change that.

The problem with recruiting the creme de la creme of the private sector into the public service is that you’re hardly dealing with people used to slumming it.

From March 2022 until this April, the ACCC had one of the nation’s best competition lawyers as its enforcement chief. And while she started her career in the bureaucracy, former Gilbert + Tobin, Ashurst and Herbert Smith Freehills partner Liza Carver hasn’t flown with the plebs for over a decade.
