The turn of the new year usually leads a fair portion of Australia’s wealthy to Melbourne’s playgrounds for the cricket, the polo and the sailing (or all three).

All are currently, and for the first time in a while, legal. But large-scale social events – particularly the fancy ones – can’t just be whipped up overnight.
