As guest lists go, it was decidedly eclectic. From Peter Costello to Warwick Capper. As long lunches go, it was equally notable – kicking off at noon and stretching on into the evening. All in all, Melbourne silk Stuart Wood's 50th birthday celebration last Friday was, by all accounts, a knees-up to rival even our own boldest lunching efforts. And that's saying something.
No fewer than 80 of the HR Nicholls Society member's close personal friends descended on Costello's Chinese restaurant of choice, Bamboo House (where he once wined and dined his former foe, Paul Keating) to ring in Wood's half-century – a guest list which, along with former Sydney Swans star Capper and the nation's former treasurer, included federal minister Scott Ryan, former Fair Work Commission vice-president Graeme Watson and our favourite Liberal south of the border, Tim "Zoolander" Smith.
