John Kirby and some of Village Roadshow's institutional shareholders fought an uphill battle to get the company to implement a range of governance changes. In July last year, it appeared they'd had some success, John's brother, Robert, promising to resign as executive chairman (but stay on the board) just as soon as an executive search firm found his replacement. The handover was meant to occur some time this year.
