IDP Education falls down a glass cliff

Andrew Barkla must be relieved he sold nearly everything that wasn’t nailed down when the company was in happier times.

When IDP Education shares dived 48 per cent on Tuesday, wiping an eye-watering $523 million of its market value, there were two clear losers: CEO Tennealle O’Shannessy and incoming chair Tracey Horton.

Both eminently qualified. Both recent recruits to the education and training provider. Both are the latest in a long line of women who have inherited dumpster fires of companies.
