How big super ‘sponsors’ Australia’s unions

Australia’s superannuation funds have for the first time had to reveal itemised disclosures of their marketing, sponsorship and partnership spending.

Three of Australia’s largest superannuation funds spent no less than $3 million in various affiliation and partnership fees to Australia’s unions in the year ended June 30. And that’s not counting directors’ fees, payments to superannuation-specific bodies or other trade and industry groups.

How do we know? Well, as Australia’s AGM season rolled to a close, Australia’s largest asset owners quietly held their own dates with destiny.
