If he pulls it off, and maybe if he doesn’t, BHP’s all-scrip, $56 billion offer for British resources titan Anglo American will come to define chief executive Mike Henry’s legacy. So, perhaps, it’s no wonder he appears keen to learn from history.

On Monday evening, behind the Australian Museum at power diner Beppi’s in Darlinghurst, Sydney, Henry was clocked breaking bread with ex-Dow Chemical supremo Andrew Liveris, who in 2017 succeeded in merging Dow with DuPont in what remains one of the world’s largest corporate mega-mergers.
