Wealthy barrister and pastoralist Allan Myers KC has accused the Melbourne Club of racism in an excoriating letter that takes the private gentlemen’s institution to task over the rejection of a member he had nominated.
Myers, who was recently the chancellor of Melbourne University, resigned from the Melbourne Club in frustration in March. In a letter dated April 5, and obtained by The Australian Financial Review’s Rear Window column, he says the club rejected his nominee’s application because of race.
