Why builders aren’t building enough homes
Growing numbers of Australians can’t find or afford homes to rent or to buy. Surging immigration and falling new supply is worsening a housing crisis that few politicians want to discuss.

So one real estate agent in Sydney’s densely populated eastern beachside suburbs points to the possibility of a slight decrease in the unmet demand for rentals last weekend by saying “only” 85 people looked at the agency’s six properties available. Even that, she thinks, is more likely a temporary lull because of the Easter holiday period.
