The rapidly weakening residential market has pushed listings portal realestate.com.au into offering agents free listings of homes from which it will only take a fee if the property sells – just three weeks after saying such a step was not viable.
REA Group changed its policy because of the growing reluctance of vendors to pay upfront marketing costs – up to $3000 for one listing – in an environment in which sales are uncertain, chief executive Owen Wilson said.
