House prices in cheaper suburbs surge 10pc in three months

House prices jumped more than 10 per cent in just three months across some of the cheaper suburbs in Sydney and Perth as the housing market picked up steam, data from CoreLogic shows.

At the same time, home values in several of the most expensive suburbs in the country slumped by as much as $388,000 as worsening affordability and significantly reduced borrowing capacity funnelled demand towards the lower and middle end segment of the market.
