Skills shortages, the time-sucking work needed to cut planning and zoning red tape, and rising property prices mean Labor’s latest $3.5 billion plan to ease the housing crisis will struggle to work, economists and property experts say.

The boss of commercial property giant Goodman said state governments just needed to “get their skates on” to start rezoning land that is primed for residential development if they want to improve housing supply.
