Moelis buys iconic Byron Bay hotel for $100m

Byron Bay's Beach Hotel – once owned by Paul Hogan's sidekick, John "Strop" Cornell – has been sold to listed investment house Moelis Australia in a record deal worth more than $100 million.

When completed, the transaction will bring together the freehold real estate – held by the Liberman family-backed Impact Investment for the past two years – with the operating business, run by the van Haandel family since 2007.
