Lifestyle Communities hardly a villain in Australia’s housing story

If we remove or restrict land lease models like those under the spotlight after a Victorian tribunal decision against fees, the only people who lose are those who will be priced out.

Wickhams Hill’s Lloyd Moffatt, writing in The Australian Financial Review, recently tried to paint the land lease housing model – and Lifestyle Communities in particular – as a villain in Australia’s housing story. It’s a dramatic tale that misses crucial context and deserves a factual response.

Let’s start with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal decision at the centre of the article. Contrary to Moffatt’s characterisation, this was not a take-down of our business or the land lease model. It was a finding on the legal interpretation of one clause in our standard contract.
