New colours are emerging in the sea of flags brandished by Hong Kong’s protesters at their weekly street demonstrations.

The bright yellow, red and blue of the Catalan separatist flag was fluttering in the breeze in the streets of Kowloon last Sunday. Black-clad protesters proudly brandished the symbol of another fight for independence being waged on the other side of the world.
