The $21m COVIDSafe app has finally been scrapped

The federal government has scrapped the $21 million COVIDSafe app, amid a shift away from contact tracing and criticisms by health researchers the program was not useful at identifying potential COVID-19 cases.

The app was launched in April 2020. Designed to assist in contact tracing, former prime minister Scott Morrison described it as the “ticket to ensuring we can ease restrictions”.
